Now remember that there are some 2 blade broadheads out there, but are not as effective as a Bear with the chisel tip, theirs come to a point which tend to curl after hitting bone. In my opinion and 32 years hunting experience, you can not go wrong with the bear broadhead. My field tips shoot exactly the same as my broadheads. I do not insert the bleeder blade which I found to create radical movement during arrow flight and cant the head 1 o’clock to 7 O’clock or 11 O’clock to 5 O’clock to match up to the vanes as close as possible. If you set them straight vertically you will experience fish tailing or if you position them horizontally your arrow will porpoise.
The manufacturers do attempt to put a chiseled point, but it is not enough to blow up a shoulder blade on a large animal, it is still a “Dart” pointIt is all in the design of the broadhead. I wish I had a plumb bob to hit into a round of wood, but the illustration shows what I am talking about.
I have hunted with the Bear 100 grain for several years and have harvested many trophies. When I guided I always kept an extra supply for clients that after taking a shoulder blade shot and not penetrating would change out their wicked broadheads for the 2 blade Bear and have a successful hunt.
If you take the plumb bob and stick it on a round of wood and hit it as hard as you can, it will absorb into the round not splitting it. Like a nail in a 2x4, it doesn't split the wood and is only absorbed due to the shape.
Now take the wedge specifically designed to split wood and with half the force used on the plumb bob easily split the round of wood.

Broadhead Physics
Seems like broadhead manufacturers like any other manufacturer produce products to sell on emotion. A broadhead might look wicked, but be one of the most ineffective. They perform tests and produce results, but are they real outdoor tests on animals? We all know bone density is different on all animals so their results are a positive-negative. I have heard hunters talk about their broadheads blowing through shoulder blades of white tail deer, but that broadhead might not even start to penetrate a shoulder blade of an elk or moose.
Before modern man started designing new and better broadheads the Indians successfully used a basic plain design. Yes it was due to their limited resources, but they harvested game to feed the tribe. This brings us to the basics of simple to understand broadhead physics.
In the figure below you see a plumb bob used by surveyors to accurately mark a spot. Notice how rounded it is. I see several broadheads with what I call a “Dart Point”. On the right you see a wedge designed to easily split a round of wood.
